Walter O’Brien Delivers Keynote at 2015 Northeast Indiana Defense Industry Association Mega Conference

O’Brien spoke to over 250 government officials and defense-industry leaders

LOS ANGELES, CA — Walter O’Brien, the inspiration behind the CBS hit show </Scorpion>, and founder and CEO of international consulting firm, Scorpion Computer Services, delivered the keynote address at the 2015 Northeast Indiana Defense Industry Association (NIDIA) Mega Conference in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  This key note address also included members from the Fort Wayne Base Community Council, an organization focused on taking care of military members and their families.

NIDIA is a regional defense industry association that works to grow defense business in northeast Indiana. It works with community educators to help develop and improve northeast Indiana’s ability to attract and retain talent and improve interaction between the defense industry and NIDIA businesses in the region. NIDIA’s Mega Conference, held bi-annually, is its flagship conference that brings together government officials and defense-industry leaders to stay abreast of defense industry challenges and opportunities.

O’Brien’s keynote speech at the Mega Conference was titled “Scorpion Unleashed: Protecting America from Cyber Attack.” In his speech, O’Brien posed the communications and cybersecurity challenges faced by the public and private sectors and proposed how to solve them. “Walter O’Brien has an ideal grasp of the myriad of cybersecurity risks we face as a nation,” said David L. Augustine, Col (ret) and Chairman of the Northeast Indiana Defense Industry Association of O’Brien speech. He added: “O’Brien provides a real solution to our federal government across cybersecurity issues at a time when our country needs it the most.”

O’Brien said of the conference: “It was an honor to speak to this group of qualified professionals and officials regarding a topic so vital to our national security. The entire audience recognized the security challenges that we’re up against.” Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann was among the speakers at the NIDIA Mega Conference.

pic2STRYKE Industries is proud to announce their newest member of the STRYKE team, Eric Tate, as a Technical Student Intern for Modeling and Simulation (M&S). “Eric will be focusing on Stryke’s M&S initiatives and supporting STRYKE’s ongoing efforts in materials selection, system design and development, M&S of advanced structures performance, and validation and verification testing of STRYKE’s prototyping efforts” stated Van Flamion, President of STRYKE Industries. Adding that, “our current growth path has necessitated the move to bring M&S and validation and verification capabilities onboard and Eric is very excited to be joining the STRYKE Team.”

 

Eric brings recent and relevant academic and industry experience to the STRYKE team regarding advanced M&S including computational fluid dynamics simulations and aerodynamic analysis on weapon defense systems. Prior to joining STRYKE Industries, Eric was an intern for Lockheed Martin, Missiles and Fire Control in Orlando, Florida for two successive summers in 2013 and 2014. While interning with Lockheed Martin in 2013, he conducted M&S and other aero analysis as a member of Lockheed Martin’s Aerodynamics Center of Excellence. During this internship, he became proficient in the use of Pro-E and StarCCM+ to construct aerodynamic models of the WCMD-ER wing kit to identify and analyze wing flutter. In 2014 he returned to Lockheed Martin as an intern where he led a team of fellow engineering interns through the integration of new operational software for the Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS), including the validation and verification of new software loads.

 

This fall Eric will enter his senior year at the University of Florida and will be graduating with Bachelor of Science degrees in both Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in 2016. STRYKE Industries is teamed with research universities and Eric acts as STRYKE’s Student Technical Liaison with the University of Florida’s Engineering Department.
